EHS Systems and Safety Reporting That People Actually Use

Making EHS systems work better in practice.

Independent EHS Systems & Business Solutions Consultant

I help organisations improve the way their EHS systems support day-to-day work. My experience spans more than 20 years across Australia and Asia, covering business analysis, requirements, system improvement, reporting, testing and post-go-live support.

Services

Where I Can Help

Support can focus on one defined requirement or form part of a larger systems initiative.

  • Requirements and gap analysisClear, testable requirements and an honest view of where the current system falls short.
  • Configuration requirementsForms, workflows, business rules (Drools/MVEL), and role and permission design.
  • Reporting and dataEHS data queries and extracts (SQL/OData), reports and dashboards.
  • Testing, UAT and go-liveTest planning, user acceptance testing and go-live readiness.
  • User guides and trainingPractical documentation, knowledge transfer and support after go-live.
  • Data migrationData migration planning, mapping and validation.

Experienced across a range of enterprise EHS platforms.

Pentaho Reporting

Need a Pentaho Report or Dashboard Built or Updated?

Pentaho report and dashboard design: Pentaho Report Designer (.prpt) reports and CTools dashboards, built and tested in your environment and released through your own deployment process.

Pentaho works with data from many systems rather than one specific EHS product. Where your EHS data can be reached through a supported database or data connection, and you have a Pentaho environment (or a platform with Pentaho built in), I can design reports and dashboards around it. I'll confirm fit for your setup before we start.

This is a focused service for a clear reporting need. That might be a new report, a dashboard refinement, or changes to an existing report.

If you can share the outcome you need, the fields involved and any constraints, I'm happy to talk through the approach, timing and an estimate.

Approach

How I Work

Most work is delivered by me personally. Where a project needs extra capacity, I may involve trusted Australian-based consultants, only with your prior agreement, and I remain your single point of contact and accountable for the work. Client systems and data stay in your environment and under your access controls unless you agree otherwise in writing, and I don't share client data with anyone without your approval.

I help clarify the requirement, keep the work aligned with the agreed scope, and keep you informed along the way.

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance held.

Report and Dashboard Design Samples

Four illustrative examples of the kind of reports and dashboards I design for EHS teams. They're design mock-ups rather than exports from a live system, and each uses a fictional organisation and synthetic data, so you can see the approach without any client information.

Operational Overview: Safety Performance Across All Sites on One Page

A one-page view of safety performance across every site. Leadership gets headline rates at a glance: injury frequency, reporting activity, overdue actions and inspection compliance. Site managers can read on to see which site needs attention first. Colour is used only for action status and always sits next to a label and a number, so the page reads clearly in print or greyscale.

Incident Trends and Action Ageing: Injury Rate Trend and the Oldest Open Actions

Shows where injury rates are heading and which corrective actions have been left open longest. A rolling 12-month trend against target smooths month-to-month noise. Alongside it sit the injury types behind the rate and a breakdown of overdue actions by age and priority. A list of the oldest overdue actions, with owners shown by role, gives a review meeting something concrete to work through.

Injury Analysis: Injuries by Severity, Cause and Timing, Plus a Body Map of Where They Occur

Shows how many injuries occur, how serious they are, how they happen and where on the body. The Injury overview tab breaks injuries down by month and severity, employees and contractors, cause and time of day, and selecting a month, cause or time filters the rest of the tab. The Body map tab shows where injuries occur for first aid, medical treatment and lost time, with a table beside it, and selecting a body part highlights it across the figures and table. Severity runs on one light-to-dark colour ramp so lost time injuries stand out, uncoded injuries are counted openly, and injured workers are never identified.

Risk and Control Status: Residual Risk, Control Verification and Risks Due for Review

Shows which risks remain high after controls, and whether those controls are verified and reviewed on time. A residual risk matrix and an inherent-versus-residual comparison show where risk sits and how much the controls reduce it. Controls are grouped by the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, isolation, engineering, administrative and PPE), so you can see how much reliance sits on administrative controls and PPE. A watchlist of the highest-rated risks ends in a clear status column, which makes the report usable in a risk review.
